Second batch of holistic therapists graduate |27 November 2015

More holistic therapists are graduating from the Academy of High Performance.

A cohort of nine graduated earlier this month, two months after the graduation of a first batch of eight in September.

In order to produce high quality holistic therapists the Academy of High Performance works closely with Transform-therapies (Sey) Ltd, a well established holistic clinic at Anse Des Genets.

Transform-therapies (Sey) Ltd started its first clinic in Luton in Hertfordshire, UK in 1991 and relocated to The Wishing Well at Anse Des Genets, Mahe, Seychelles in 2006. Its regular TV promotion and its high rate of success in treating mind and body related illnesses and disorders has proven as successful in Seychelles as in England.

The holistic therapists who graduated were all trained to deliver Swedish massage and aromatherapy massage using essential oils to treat several ailments and disorders which a conventional massage would not address.

In addition the graduates had to learn all 11 anatomy and physiology body systems, understand how the body functions, how the organs work, how the bones are structured, the way blood flows through the body and how essential oils enter the body and is distributed and dissolved in the blood stream and of course customer care.

They have been trained to read body language, how the human mind works and be able to read X-rays from the hospital so that they can better diagnose the clients’ ailments and make very effective use of aromatherapy essential oils to address the ailments.

These graduates are not just masseurs who deliver ordinary body massage, they have been trained to locate the source of the ailment and then to use their training to ascertain the required treatment necessary to ensure speedy recovery of the client.

The second cohort of graduates comprise Theresette Rose, Daniella Robert, Sharon Fernandez, Samir Hamma, Neilla Knowles, Floyd Nalletamby, Prissica Federia, Steffie Mathiot and Odette Legaie.

“The course was intense because we had a great deal to get through the programme and besides the Academy believes in making sure the subjects are fully taught in an atmosphere where learning takes place using the power of the mind to first understand then put into practice the theories which is why this course takes place in the Transform-therapies’ clinic at Anse Des Genets where there are already existing facilities for such treatments to be delivered,” explains Barry Laine, the academy’s principal.

“In addition the Academy believes that no one should attempt to deliver a massage on someone until that person knows what is under the skin and how the various body systems work otherwise more harm than good could be caused to the client,” stresses Mr Laine.

Mr Laine says what the Academy is most proud about is the fact that it is producing Seychellois holistic therapists because right now in the hotels and spas in Seychelles most of the therapists are foreigners from Philippines, Sri Lanka and as far as Japan because hitherto there has been a shortage of Seychellois holistic therapists to work in our high class hotels and spas.
“This is why the Academy is not interested in producing masseurs who just deliver a relaxation massage, we need to go further and be more effective in our endeavours to treat our clients,” says Mr Laine.

“The Academy provides a very strong training foundation and it is up to the hotels and spas to give these holistic therapists an opportunity to practice what they have learned and gain experience because the Academy cannot provide experience,” Mr Laine says.

Mr Laine believes that using locally trained therapists is more advantageous than bringing in foreigners.

A new course will begin in January for a third cohort.
