Police reports decrease in theft related offences |28 November 2015

The police have reported that strategies they have adopted aimed at improving service delivery and combating crime are showing encouraging signs.

Recently released figures from June to end of October show that 547 cases of burglary have been reported during this period this year compared to 770 cases recorded during the same period last year, representing a 29% decrease.

As for thefts, 653 cases have been reported compared to 806 cases last year, a decrease of 19%.

With regard to crime in general 2,556 cases were reported last year while 2,068 have been reported for the same period this year, a decrease of 19%.  

Offences such as stealing from a person and common assault have also decreased by 29% from 457 cases last year to 348 cases this year.

The police have commended their officers and also members of the public, especially those who have not hesitated to report criminal activities going on in their communities.

Meanwhile the number of persons wanted by the police has reduced from between 80 to 100 at the beginning of the year to 10 at present.
