Electoral Commission reviews part of voting process |28 November 2015

Following the recommendation of the Ministry of Health, the Electoral Commission has reviewed part of the voting process especially with regard to marking the voter’s finger with purple ink.

Electoral Officers will now use a cotton bud to apply purple ink on the voter’s index finger of the left hand instead of asking them to dip their finger in the ink pot as previously planned.

As per the advice of the health authorities, this is being done to avoid any potential risk of contamination from one voter to another.

The Commission is making the necessary logistical arrangement to implement this new procedure for voting on December 3-5, 2015.

Marking the fingers of voters with purple ink is one of the measures taken to avoid the possibility of a voter voting twice.

Additionally the voter’s hand will be sprayed with an invisible solution which can only be detected under ultraviolet light.
