Round two voting underway |17 December 2015

Voting in the second round of the presidential election started yesterday at special polling stations and will continue today, with the main polling day being tomorrow on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

Those working and living on the islands, residents of the North East Point Home for the Elderly and patients of the North East Point Hospital, those who are temporarily residing on Praslin for employment reasons and those living on Ile Perseverance but registered in different electoral areas voted yesterday.

People who will be working in essential services away from their electoral areas on the main polling day also voted at a special polling station set up at the School Meal Centre, English River.

The two main candidates who are contesting the election, Parti Lepep’s candidate James Michel and the Seychelles National Party’s (SNP) candidate Wavel Ramkalawan visited the special voting stations yesterday.

The electoral officer in charge of the special polling station at the School Meal Centre, Michel Mellie, told Seychelles NATION that people who were travelling over the next two days had some difficulties to vote because their names did not feature on the list.

“We have about 1925 who have registered to vote today, and with those who are going abroad brings the total to some 2000 who will vote today (Wednesday). In the first round of the election we were using only two tables, but since we have more people voting we had to use three tables. We are more organised,” he said.
