Fire incidents at Beau Vallon and Anse Etoile |15 January 2016

No arrests so far

The police have so far made no arrests relating to the two fire incidents recorded earlier this week in north Mahé.

According to a police spokesman, the investigation is in its initial stage and a senior officer has been mandated to work on the case.

The first fire was in the Beau Vallon Parti Lepep office on Tuesday evening and the other in the Anse Etoile district administration office in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA) public relations officer Jones Madeleine, they were informed of the Beau Vallon fire at 10.14 on Tuesday night.

He said when they arrived at the scene the door of the office had already been broken down and the fire was burning in seven different parts of the office – on the furniture like chairs and sofas.

Mr Madeleine explained that this means the person responsible had lit a fire in different seats inside the office. A television set and some furniture were destroyed by the fire.

As for the fire at the Anse Etoile district administration office it was recorded just after midnight on Wednesday.

The only thing that was damaged is part of a stage and there were also fire marks on the floor and on the walls.

Mr Madeleine explained that the SFSRA came to the conclusion that the two incidents were connected as the pattern of fire was the same.
