Oldest Seychellois celebrates 107th birthday |01 February 2016

A special party was organised on Friday for the oldest citizen of Seychelles, Nancy Marie, who turned 107 on Tuesday January 26.

The mother of two children and grandmother to five children, Mrs Marie celebrated her birthday at her Ma Joie residence in the company of family and friends.

Mrs Marie spent the afternoon laughing and joking with close friends and family. Also present were the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton, the elected member of the National Assembly for English River Kevin Vidot and the special advisor in the community development department Dan Frichot. They honoured her with gift baskets containing household goods and basic necessities.

Her son, Guy Marie, proudly mentioned that apart from occasional colds or flu, his mother never gets sick, nor does she have any other common medical complications the elderly are prone to such as diabetes or hypertension.

Guy’s sister, Anne, noted how her mother still does many things around the house, saying that she is very active, she occasionally cooks, irons, sews and takes care of the grand children.

“You’ll be surprised at how well she goes up and down the steep roads of Ma Joie better than most. She even refuses to hold anyone’s hand,” said Anne.
