New supermarket and wholesale outlet open at Grand Anse Mahé |01 February 2016

STC brings services closer to the community

The Seychelles Trading Company (STC) has opened a supermarket and wholesale outlet at Grand Anse Mahé.

The company has said this will cater for the shopping needs of the district and the western region of Mahé and bring its services closer to the community.

The official opening ceremony was done in the presence of the Minister for Finance, Trade and the Blue Economy, Jean-Paul Adam; the chief executive of the STC Veronique Laporte; the district’s administrator; STC staff and inhabitants of Grand Anse.

The new facilities form part of the company’s expansion strategy to further diversify its services and in its quest to continue delivering value and the best services closer to its customers.

In a short address for the occasion, Minister Adam said the event is very important for STC itself as a parastatal organisation which has a role of providing a service where the government makes sure the Seychellois receive the necessary products, products of daily necessity at an affordable price.

“This is the first mission of the STC. It’s not only about having a hypermarket or a supermarket in town but that it has a few branches that allow it to play the role of giving each Seychellois a better purchasing power so they can buy products they need at reasonable prices,” said Minister Adam

The minister highlighted the second role of the STC which is to be the accelerator in the economy providing opportunities for other Seychellois businesses. To this effect he expressed his appreciation to businesses that are benefitting through contracts with the STC and to the Grand Anse community through the service and employment opportunities the company is offering.

“All these form part of the STC mission – a mission encompassing both social and economic benefits,” remarked the minister.

According to CEO Laporte, the outlet will generally bring three main services to shoppers of that district and surrounding ones. These are the retail section where the supermarket will provide a variety of merchandise though the company will concentrate more on basic products and will welcome feedback to know better which merchandise to stock; the wholesale section which will benefit the business community and large families who are advised to buy in bulk as it will cost them less. The wholesale service also applies to anyone interested. Thirdly STC Grand Anse is also selling LPG (cooking gas), a first for the company, following great demand from the community.

“Today STC is delivering on another promise made to the community where it is bringing its services closer to them,” said Ms Laporte.

She also remarked this is the last supermarket STC opens for this year as right now they do not have future plans for new outlets.

Therefore she urged her staff to make the Grand Anse supermarket an exemplary one.
