China and Seychelles reaffirm cultural ties |02 February 2016

The high level of cooperation in the field of tourism and culture and the friendly ties that China and Seychelles already share and enjoy will be further strengthened now that the two countries have signed an agreement to consolidate these.

Visiting Chinese Vice-Minister for Culture Ding Wei heading a delegation to take part in the Seychelles-China Day celebrations taking place here this week and the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange signed the agreement at the ministry’s headquarters at the Espace Building yesterday afternoon.

Minister St Ange expressed the government’s and people of Seychelles’ gratitude for the already existing cooperation and friendly ties between the two countries in various fields.

With regard to the cultural cooperation and ties Minister St Ange said it is proof that “when we put cultural matters in the forefront we are also putting our people in contact with each other”.

He added that the visit of Minister Ding comes at an important juncture for us as we prepare to celebrate China Day as well as welcome our first direct flight from the Chinese capital.

“These are marking times just ahead of the 40th anniversary of the cooperation between Seychelles and China,” Minister St Ange pointed out.

“We are indeed happy to see the renewal of our cooperation through this agreement which paves the way for greater things between our two countries,” Mr St Ange said, noting that both countries stand to benefit greatly as a result.

“We appreciate the ties, we appreciate the friendship and we appreciate all the support we can get from the People’s Republic of China,” Minister St Ange added.

Noting that the construction of a maritime museum expected to be built on Hodoul Island is one of the most pressing project of the Tourism and Culture Ministry, Minister St Ange said he hopes this will be materialised with the help of the Chinese government.

For his part Vice-Minister Ding thanked and congratulated Minister St Ange for the warm welcome, great hospitality and wished the Seychellois people prosperity and success during the Chinese New Year of the Monkey.

“No matter the size and geographic distance between our countries we enjoy a great friendship because we always believe we should treat each other with mutual respect and as friend and I think China and Seychelles have set up an example of bilateral relationship among all countries in the world,” Minister Ding added.

Bilateral talks by the two ministers followed the signing of the agreement.
