Cancer blitz and open day help raise awareness |08 February 2016

The Seychelles Cancer Concern Association continued with its activities to mark World Cancer Day on February 4, with a blitz and open day at St Paul’s Cathedral in Victoria on Saturday.

Screening, counselling with doctors, educational materials sensitising the populace on cancer were available for free to the public.

Souvenirs like T-shirts and key rings were also on sale in a bid for the association to raise funds for its intended projects.

A doctor and ambulance were present where advice and screening options were presented to the public.

People wanting to have either a breast, prostate or any other forms of cancer screened were free to use the service but they could also leave their contacts for an appointment to carry out their tests at a later date.

The chairman of the association, Bishop French Chang Him, said cancer concern is still looking for an appropriate place to carry out its activities. The good news is that it has received a van to carry their patients to and from treatment.

“The van is for patients who are undergoing treatment for cancer especially chemotherapy. We are currently looking for a driver,” said the bishop.

He also announced that the association has got an office at the Espace building but it still needs a specialised centre.
