Public learn more about further studies options |09 February 2016

The Agency for National Human Resource Development (ANHRD) organised a public awareness session last week aimed at informing the public of the various scholarships and training opportunities available.

The event, held at the International Conference Centre (ICCS), was also an opportunity to encourage professionals to take on further education and consequently increase their value on the local job market.

Such activity gives students and members of the public the chance to speak to representatives of various universities and student bodies as well as representatives of embassies and consulates for information related to studies abroad.

Present at the ceremony were the Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development Idith Alexander, the chief executive (CEO) of the ANHRD Roseline Houareau, representatives of various universities; among other guests and students.

Ms Houareau said that such activity will enable the students and members of the public to gather information about the various scholarships on offer.

“During the past five years, we have witnessed an increase in the number of students who have opted to pursue their tertiary studies both locally and overseas. This year alone, we expect a total of 380 students to benefit from further training,” she said.

She added that the ANHRD remains committed to helping students and members of the public to follow their dreams.

“As the agency responsible for national human resource development we remain committed to strengthening our efforts to increase and facilitate access to training opportunities for Seychellois students. It is with this in mind that we have organised such an activity with the aim of providing students and members of the public alike with first-hand information on the different types of training and scholarship available,” she added.

A representative from Middlesex University of Mauritius, Dominique Arlanda, said their main goal is to recruit more Seychellois students.

“We have around 30 students from Seychelles who are currently at the university following their studies. We wanted to meet more students who are passionate about psychology; we wanted to know what the Seychellois students were searching for,” she said.

Seychellois students had many choices from the different universities present such as the University of Seychelles, Middlesex University from Mauritius and Segi University, among others.

Mary-Mon Thomas who is currently following a teaching course at the Seychelles Institute for Teacher Education (Site) said she came to gather more information about other universities.

“I came today to find out about the courses that the universities are offering to the students, the application process, the required grades you need to be accepted, etc,” she said.

Anuishka Nanty who will be graduating soon from the School of Advanced Level Studies (Sals) was also present to gain more information about the various courses.

“I came today to get information about the psychology course. I am interested in following this course at the Middlesex University from Mauritius. Also I took the opportunity to learn more about other courses,” she said.
