Poster competition - Students join chorus to stop coco de mer poaching |12 February 2016

 

School children who have excelled in a poster competition aimed at highlighting the adverse effects of coco de mer poaching have been rewarded.

Organised by the Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF), the competition was for students from primary and secondary schools.

The objective of the competition was to raise awareness among the students and the public of the negative consequences that coco de mer poaching can bring about.

This national issue has recently been highlighted with the drafting of a new coco de mer policy and SIF continues to work towards educating the youths on the importance of such topic.  

Students who took part in the poster competition have tried to express why we should stop coco de mer poaching.

Present at the prize giving ceremony were the chief executive (CEO) of the Seychelles National Parks Authority Flavien Joubert, staff from the department of environment, students, among other guests.

In the primary category the first prize winner was Neil Commetant from Bel Ombre school. He won an artwork sponsored by Rita More, a ‘Lost World’ book and ‘Coco de Mer’ book, a return ticket to Praslin on Cat Cocos, one free entrance ticket to the Vallée de Mai, complementary refreshments and snacks at Kokosye café and a private guided tour of the Vallée de Mai, all sponsored by SIF.

The winner of the second prize, Andria Ranaivonirina from Anse Boileau school has won herself one return ferry ticket to La Digue sponsored by Inter Island Ferry, a ‘Lost World’ book and ‘Coco de Mer’ book sponsored by SIF.

As third prize winner, Salome Abel, also from Anse Boileau school, received a ‘Lost World’ book and ‘Coco de Mer’ book sponsored by SIF.

Elie Sopha from Beau Vallon school won the prize for special effort.

In the secondary category the first prize was awarded to Fabiana Bertin from Beau Vallon school. Bertin won an artwork sponsored by Raisa Libanotis, a ‘Lost World’ book and ‘Coco de Mer’ book, a return ticket to Praslin on Cat Cocos, one free entrance ticket to the Vallée de Mai, complementary refreshments and snacks at Kokosye café and a private guided tour of the Vallée de Mai, all sponsored by SIF.

The second prize winner, Shawn Bastienne from Beau Vallon school, won himself one return ferry ticket to La Digue sponsored by Inter Island Ferry, a ‘Lost World’ book and ‘Coco de Mer’ book sponsored by SIF.

The third prize in this category went to Sarah Larue from Beau Vallon school. She received a ‘Lost World’ book and ‘Coco de Mer’ book sponsored by SIF.
