Contestants in media glare for the first time

Organisers, sponsors and partners of the Miss Seychelles … Another World 2016, as well as members of the media had the chance to officially meet the 12 contestants who will take part in this year’s beauty pageant that will take place on May 28.

This was during a gathering yesterday at the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) head office in the presence of the chief executive of the STB Sherin Naiken and deputy chief Nathalie Didon as well as partners and sponsors.

The girls are aged between 17 and 24 years and are all raring to compete for the prestigious crown and succeed the outgoing beauty queen Linne Freminot, who was also present yesterday to encourage and motivate the contestants.

Speaking at the event, Ms Naiken said there is a need to put the beauty pageant contestants in the forefront, make them ambassadors and showcase our people to the world, and in so doing promote our country.

“Today we have 12 contestants who have stepped up for the challenge of becoming the next Miss Seychelles. It took them a lot of courage and determination to embark on that journey that will give them an experience of a lifetime. You need to enjoy the journey throughout the three months,” she said.

She pointed out that the girls will also have to face critics from the social media and for which they need to be strong and tolerant.

The 12 girls are Samiya Albert from Pointe Larue, Kimberly Anacoura (Port Glaud), Lianne Barbe (Praslin), Christine Barbier (Cascade), Ruth Bonte (Anse Etoile), Rita-Maria Durup (Mont Fleuri), Hemma Hoffman (Mont Fleuri), Samira Nicoire (Foret Noire), Anaïs Nourrice (Roche Caïman), Juanita Porice (Anse Boileau), Sophie Rosette (La Retraite), and Camilla Spivey (Pointe Larue).

The girls should bear in mind that aside from the beauty with a purpose project, focus is also placed on the talent and involvement in sports, criteria which serve as bonuses and are of vital importance to the Miss World beauty contest.
