Anse Royale district gets donation of street lanterns |29 March 2016

The Anse Royale district has received a donation of 10 LED street lanterns from the Mauritian district council of Flacq.

The donation was handed over to the Anse Royale district administrator Jim-Roy Jeannevole by the chairman of the district council of Flacq Bhooneswar Rajkumarsing in a short ceremony last Thursday in the office of the Mayor of Victoria.

Present at the ceremony were the Mayor of Victoria Jacqueline Moustache-Belle, chief executive of the district council of Flacq Vinaye Thakoor and delegation member Choolhun Devendra, member of the National Assembly for Anse Royale Derek Samson, other members of the Anse Royale district and from the office of Mayor of Victoria.

The electrical Nikkon LEDXION street lanterns will be placed in places in need of visibility and security for the inhabitants of Anse Royale.

This donation was a promise made by the district council of Flacq when the two districts – Flacq and Anse Royale -- signed a twinning agreement in 2014 in Mauritius.

Mr Rajkumarsing said it was an immense pleasure for him to be in Seychelles to present the donation even though “it has been sometime since we had promised Anse Royale the 10 lanterns”.

He said he was looking forward for the twinning agreement to be more constructive.

Mr Rajkumarsing added that the district council of Flacq is very happy to be hosting by the end of May a group of senior citizens from Anse Royale for interaction with their peers in Flacq.

District administrator Jeannevole thanked his Mauritian counterpart for the generous donation saying that they will be put to good use.

Honourable Samson also thanked the district council of Flacq not only for the donation but also for the mutual friendship that exists between the two districts.

“Today your visit shows the bearing of fruits of such exchanges that are signed with districts even though at times some dossiers are signed and are then forgotten in a drawer somewhere. But your visit is proof that our friendship will bear more fruits in the future which will surely motivate other districts to strike twinning partnerships,” he said.

Honourable Samson also thanked the district council of Flacq for inviting the district of Anse Royale for an exchange visit in Mauritius.

Mayor Moustache-Belle also thanked the district council of Flacq for the donation and particularly both districts for honouring the twinning agreement signed since 2014.

The ceremony ended with an exchange of gifts.

The Mauritian district council of Flacq delegation who arrived last Tuesday evening, met Mayor Moustache-Belle in her office and also held talks and discussions on twinning projects with the Anse Royale district officials.

They also toured Mahé especially in Anse Royale where they visited agricultural farms, Jardin du Roi, ‘Kot Man Ya’ Eco garden, University of Seychelles, housing and other projects in the district, before attending a cultural evening.

The district council of Flacq delegation left Seychelles on Saturday.
