Ephelia resort hands over projects to community |09 April 2016

The Port Glaud community can now benefit from a bus shelter, an access ramp, a warning sign and a jungle gym.

The implementation of these projects worth around R250,000 took place last year and it falls under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of Constance Ephelia resort.

The general manager of the resort, Kai Hoffmeister, handed over the projects to the Port Glaud district administrator Egbert Aglae in a short ceremony last week.

The bus shelter is situated opposite the entrance of the hotel for the purpose of serving hotel guests and staff as well as residents of the area.

The warning sign, which is posted in the Port Glaud church parking, next to the beach, warns of drowning risks, other dangers and best practices for a person’s safety as there have been past drowning incidents in this particular area.

The new jungle gym is next to the DA’s office where it will be used by the children of the district.

During the ceremony 25 creche children got to enjoy themselves on the monkey bars, climbing and swinging on the equipment.

Mr Kai also handed over a ramp to the pastor responsible for Port Glaud and Grand Anse churches, Father Thierry Rafalimanana and a representative of the church Barry Emmanuel.

The ramp is at the entrance of the Port Glaud church and it will provide access for church goers, mostly elderly or disabled persons, and also ease the transportation of coffins from and to church during funerals.

Mr Kai was accompanied by the Ephelia resort landscape manager Sedwick Thomas.

Mr Kai said since the opening of the resort in 2010, they have always found ways to help the community in any way possible.

“These projects help with the integration of our resort in the community especially for the youth. For our part we will continue the cooperation with the district administration,” he said.

Mr Aglae is urging the public, especially the residents of Port Glaud, to make good use of these new facilities and take care of them.

“I wish to thank Ephelia resort for the sponsorship and we hope to further this collaboration. To those who use these facilities, I urge you to use them wisely, very carefully and not to damage or vandalise them so that the future generation can also benefit from them,” he said.
