• Alisha Jean-Louis clinches President’s Cup

One hundred and thirty-seven students from the Seychelles Business Studies Academy (SBSA) graduated yesterday.

Alisha Jean-Louis, who followed the Diploma in Business Studies and Accounting, emerged as the winner of the President’s Cup.

The graduation ceremony, held at the University of Seychelles’ auditorium at Anse Royale, was attended by President James Michel, ministers and other dignitairies.

Among the 137 graduates, 115 have successfully completed their studies in the two full-time diploma programmes, that is, Diploma in Business Studies and Accounting where 67 graduated and Diploma in Office Management and Administration with 48 graduates.

Twenty-two have successfully completed their training in the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

This is the first year that in-service AAT students are included in the graduation.

Other award winners were Tracey Monthy (Best Effort in AAT Level 2 Certificate); Margaret Labrose (Best Effort in AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting); Kurcia Payet (Best Effort in Diploma in Office Management and Administration); Jade Mondon (Best Effort in Diploma in Business Studies and Accounting); Stephania Hoareau (Outstanding Performer in Diploma in Office Management and Administration); Charles Ally (Outstanding Performer in Diploma in Business Studies and Accounting); Alexandra Payet (Most Improved Student Award sponsored by the Seychelles National Youth Council).

Charles Ally also won the AAT Shield while Stephania Hoareau won the City and Guilds Shield.

Reflections and songs animated the ceremony while best performer Alisha Jean-Louis had a vote of thanks on behalf of all her colleagues.

The director of SBSA, Josianne Bristol, noted the good results attained by the academy’s students.

She commended the increase in the number of boys who have followed training there and expressed pride in all her students’ achievements.

She also noted this year the academy took an important step forward where it developed, launched and implemented their SBSA access programme.

“This enabled us to help those learners to be better prepared so as to meet and successfully face the challenges of studying at the academy,” said Mrs Bristol.

She also said the academy has developed a new programme -- a certificate in office administration -- which has been granted official validation by the Seychelles Qualifications Authority (SQA) and which will be offered on a part-time basis.

Mrs Bristol advised her graduates that this is only a new beginning, the start of a new structure in their life and added she expected them to live by the integrity instilled in them.
