Swimming: Cana Zone 4 championship - Grasselli Barni wins gold for Seychelles |22 April 2016

Seychelles has won a gold medal at the ongoing African Swimming Confederation (Cana) zone 4 championship being held at the Serge Alfred Swimming Pool at Beau Bassin, Mauritius.

Nicole Grasselli Barni won the gold medal in the female 800m freestyle of the 15-16 years old category with a time of 10 minutes 00.78 seconds (10:00.78).

Grasselli Barni was not the only medal winner for Seychelles on Wednesday as Therese Soukoup managed to clinch a silver medal in the female 100m backstroke of the 13-14 years old category with a time of 1:11.89.

There were 52 events on Wednesday and Seychellois swimmers were in action in 14 of them.

The African Swimming Confederation (Cana) is divided into four zones. Seychelles is one of the 14 Southern African countries in Zone 4. The annual sub-Saharan gala is intended to raise the standard of swimming in the region and was first held in Swaziland in 2004. 

The other Seychellois swimmers at the competition are Dean Hoffman, Samuele Rossi, Bernard Payet, Damien Payet, Tyler Fred, Alain Vidot, Daniel Ferley, Luca Soleil, Joshua Miller, Luke Miller, Amy Andre, Aisha khan, Shanna Soleil and Raphaella Ferley.

The competition ends tomorrow and the swimmers are expected back on April 24.
