. Côte d’Or shoot to the top, La Passe hammer Dynamo, St Louis hold off The Lions’ threat

Barclays league division one champions St Michel held off the challenge of unbeaten Foresters to ease past them on a 4-3 score in a thrilling match on Friday. On Saturday, Praslin side Côte d’Or defeated St John Bosco 3-1 to shoot to the top of the table at the expense of Foresters, La Passe ran riot against Northern Dynamo in an 8-0 win on La Digue and St Louis held off The Lions’ threat in a 3-2 win.

St Michel out fought Foresters

St Michel showed their championship credential with a hard fought 4-3 victory over Foresters in an enthralling match at Stad Linite watched by a decent crowd on Friday.

St Michel were without two of their key players, namely Yannick Manou and goalkeeper Gino Melanie through injury, but they broke the deadlock in the sixth minute as Carl Hall’s shoulders helped the ball to sail over Foresters reserve goalkeeper Randolph Bijoux to make it 1-0.

Foresters though levelled matters in the 24th minute from the penalty spot after referee Egbert Havelock penalised St Michel captain Allen Larue whom he adjudged to have handled Ugandan Tony Kizito’s shot. Foresters skipper, Malagasy Edgard Randrasina, took responsibility of the spot kick to send goalkeeper Andrea Libanotis the wrong way for a 1-1 score.

St Michel regained their advantage in the 35th minute from a fantastic free kick by Malagasy Jocelyn Fenosoa on the edge of the penalty area and the ball flew in the top corner to make it 2-1 at half-time.

This match reached another level in the second period as the fans were kept on the edge of their seat with the excitement and events on the field.

In the 49th minute, Foresters should have been awarded a more clear-cut penalty as Alex Nibourette handled Kizito’s through ball but referee Havelock turned a blind eye.

Foresters levelled the score in the 58th minute as Elvin Estico picked up a loose ball in midfield and let fly a cracking shot which sailed over goalkeeper Libanotis to make it 2-2.

Five minutes later, Foresters even took the lead from a glorious through ball by Francis Nourrice to Kizito who out sped Nibourette to bury the ball into the net for a 3-2 score.

St Michel though came storming back as they drew level in the 73rd minute from Aly’s corner which goalkeeper Bijoux came for but missed and Jocelyn slotted the ball home with an overhead kick to make it 3-3.

Seconds later, Jocelyn should have completed his hat-trick as he latched onto a threading pass but with only goalkeeper Bijoux to beat, he inexplicably shot wide.

Foresters almost regained the lead in the 77th minute after Nelson Laurence lost the ball to Malagasy Jules Rapiera who fed Marlon Sophola whose fierce close range shot came off goalkeeper Libanotis’ knees as St Michel rode their luck.

Laurence made amends in the 86th minute from another Aly corner which Hall headed across to him and he tucked the ball past goalkeeper Bijoux for a 4-3 scoreline.

Foresters had a decent chance to preserve their unbeaten run and snatch a point in injury time from Brian Dorby’s pull back corner to Nourrice on the edge of the penalty area but he blazed the ball wide as his team lost their unbeaten run.

Foresters coach Rodney Choisy was not too disappointed after seeing his team lose for the first time this season.

“We lost this match as we could not defend set pieces but we played well but just lost to a more experienced opponent. But we can still recover as it is still early in the season,” coach Choisy said.

As for St Michel manager Andrew Jean-Louis, he was satisfied with the result though he thought the official was not in total control of the match.

“I felt the official was not in control of the match and was not consistent with his decisions which affected both teams. But overall it was a good match as we rose to the challenge in a physical encounter and we are pleased with the result and performance,” manager Jean-Louis told Sports Nation.

Côte d’Or beat Bosco to go top

Praslin side Côte d’Or defeated visitors St John Bosco 3-1 at the Amitié Stadium on Saturday to shoot to the top of the table at the expense of Foresters.

Côte d’Or took the lead courtesy of their prolific Ugandan striker Babu Iddi to lead 1-0 at half-time.

Dine Suzette increased their advantage after the break and Malagasy Patrick Rasaminana scored with a brilliant shot to make it 3-0.

Bosco scored a late consolation goal through Deroy Brutus for a final 3-1 score.

Côte d’Or have now moved to the top of the league table but club president Robert Payet was not pleased with the performance as he felt his team can perform better, but he was happy with the result.

a Passe rip apart Northern Dynamo

La Digue side La Passe bounced back in emphatic fashion to run riot against Northern Dynamo in an 8-0 win on La Digue on Saturday.

It was surely the biggest victory this season as Collin Esther opened the floodgates and the Ugandan pair of David Bagoole and Jackech Samson increased their advantage before Jules Constance made it 4-0 at the interval.

La Passe made a couple of substitutions which paid dividends as Randy Emile and Ugandan Patrick Ochian added to the scoreline to make it 6-0.

Captain Achille Henriette also got on the score sheet and Stan Fanchette made it 8-0 for a crushing victory.

St Louis held off The Lions’ threat

This match kicked off almost half an hour late due to a lack of an assistant referee and Hansley Petrousse had to come and help out.

St Louis broke the deadlock in the second minute through Yannick Julie and in the 7th minute, Roddy Melanie made it 2-0.

The Lions were awarded a penalty by referee Jean-Claude Labrosse but Rashim Padayachy fired the ball wide of Malagasy goalkeeper Michel’s goal.

In the 21st minute, Nigerian Kazeem Adeyeri increased St Louis’ score for a 3-0 lead at half-time.

St Louis went to sleep in the second half as The Lions roared to life and were denied two blatant penalties by the official.

The Lions cut the deficit with a raking free kick in the 64th minute by Liberian Mohamed Varney for a 1-3 score.

Varney rifled in another fantastic free kick in the 73rd minute as he blasted the dead ball into the roof of the net as St Louis looked rattled.

However, St Louis managed to hang on to win 3-2 and register their third win on the trot to condemn The Lions to their fifth defeat.
