Vice-President Faure addresses World Humanitarian Summit |25 May 2016

Vice-President Danny Faure is among the over one hundred heads of State and government and leaders of humanitarian organisations attending the first ever World Humanitarian Summit being held in Istanbul, Turkey.

This global event is to serve as a wake-up call for action in the service of humanity and provide a platform for the launching of new initiatives to alleviate and prevent the suffering of those who are most vulnerable.

The Summit saw a very colourful and symbolic official opening ceremony under the theme ‘Journey for Humanity’, where delegates were urged to come together and resolve themselves there and then not only to keep people alive but to give people a chance to live a life in dignity.

Vice-President Faure addressed the plenary session and pledged Seychelles’ support for a new humanitarian architecture that should be built in a conducive global environment.

He stated that the Summit is set to be a turning point in the way we address the challenges facing our common humanity.

Referring to our national context, he added that Seychelles, as one of the smallest countries in the world, lies at the heart of the humanitarian equation through the existential challenges that unfold in the daily lives of its 90,000 inhabitants.

However, because of our strong policies of putting people at the centre of our development agenda, the delivery of public goods and services are geared at ensuring that these variables never translate into situations needing humanitarian assistance.
