Primary schools gear up for Children’s Day |01 June 2016

Primary schools across Mahé have come up with wonderful initiatives to celebrate Children’s Day today.

The Perseverance North primary will take the opportunity to open its new learning centres at the crèche.

The opening ceremony will take place at 9am following a special assembly at the primary school.

These learning centres are rooms containing materials related to daily lives.

There are various areas such as the play area where there will be sand trays, small pools and a variety of toys. In the home area there will be various sections just like in a normal home such as the kitchen, bathroom, sitting area with the various equipment and furniture to match those sections. There will also be an academic area where the children will be exposed to mathematics and reading materials.

The head teacher of Perseverance North primary Bernadette Maria said children learn better through manipulation of objects and elements.

“These tools and objects will be there to enrich the children’s learning experience,” he said.

Mont Fleuri primary will rejoice by donating to the sick children spending their special day in the hospital.

Each year, children from Mont Fleuri make contributions which go towards small hampers that are given to children admitted in the children’s ward at the Seychelles Hospital.

Meanwhile Takamaka primary will be donating to a past student, Alexandro Suzette, for his cultural exchange trip to France.

This presentation will be held at Paradis des Enfants along with other various presentations by the parents’ committee and teachers.

Children will also be able to enjoy a fun day filled with recreational activities and games at the playground.

Aside from the normal programme, a donation of books will be held at Glacis primary by a mother whose children are no longer using them.

She decided to hand over the books to the school instead of throwing them away.

Au Cap primary has a special programme planned to welcome a European Union (EU) delegation who will be visiting the school. This visit comes after the EU provided funding to repair damage incurred by the school during a flooding in 2013.

The programme includes a tree planting session, presentations and other activities to thank the delegation for the generous donation.

Plaisance primary will be having a normal programme as well which includes a morning reflection, presentations by teachers and parents followed by class parties.

However there will be parents who are also renowned artists such as Ketty Melanie and Jany De Letourdie who will be performing at the school.
