Seychelles to sign US $320,000 technical help accord with Badea |01 June 2016

Seychelles will today sign aUS $320,000 technical assistance agreement, which is a grant, with the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (Badea).

The money will be used over a two-year period to fund the services of an expert in various aspects of business administration and marketing to support the Public Utilities Corporation’s (PUC) customer services division in improving the quality of services provided to customers.

The Minister for Finance, Trade and the Blue Economy, Jean-Paul Adam will sign the agreement on behalf of the government and Engineer Yousif Bin Ibrahim Al Bassam, the chairman of Badea’s board of directors will sign on the bank’s behalf.

This will be during the opening of the Badea’s June 1 to 3, second board meeting for this year taking place at the Kempinski Resort at Baie Lazare.

Already in the country for the meeting, yesterday Mr Al Bassam together with the Badea’s director general Dr Sidi Ould Tah paid a courtesy call on President James Michel at State House during which they discussed Badea funded projects here.

Speaking to the press after his talks with Mr Michel, Mr Al Bassam said it was a great opportunity to discuss Badea’s support here and in Africa as well as projects funded by the Saudi Fund and the excellent relations between Saudi Arabia and Seychelles.

Mr Al Bassam said on the agenda of today’s board meeting projects for 10 African countries will be approved as well as a number of technical assistance including the one for Seychelles.

Badea’s board of directors held its first meeting for this year in Nouakchott, Mauritania in early March.

Badea has been funding development projects in Seychelles for the past 36 years with the first financing operation in 1980 and the most recent one being the 33KV network reinforcement project for South Mahé signed in November last year.
