Professor lectures on African Renaissance |04 June 2016

The last activity to mark FetAfrik 2016 was a lecture on African Renaissance by Professor Samba Buri Mboup from Senegal.

Prof. Mboup holds a doctorate in General & Comparative Literature and a University diploma in Swahili, Bantu language and Civilization from Sorbonne University, Paris.

Prof. Mboup has published over 20 articles and book chapters. He is a senior expert with extensive international consultancy experience and a founding member of Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute.

The professor’s visit here was at the invitation of former Minister Peter Sinon, who had asked him to come and give a lecture about African Renaissance; stakes, challenges, opportunities for a strategic repositioning of Africa in the 21st century.

The African Renaissance is the concept that African people and nations shall overcome the current challenges confronting the continent and achieve cultural, scientific, and economic renewal. Among other things the African Renaissance is a philosophical movement to end the violence, elitism, corruption and poverty that plague the African continent, and replace them with a more just and equitable order.

Prof. Mboup pointed out that Africa is a country full of potential and needs to be revitalised.

“We need to start acting now so that African Renaissance can become alive, and we have the talent. We all need to work together and make Africa better,” he said.

Prof. Mboup’s books were also on sale at the lecture, so that everyone could take with them a part of Africa and try to understand the history that created the African Renaissance.
