Seychelles lose to Zimbabwe in final match at Cosafa Cup |17 June 2016

Zimbabwe recorded their first Cosafa Cup victory in Group A with a 5-0 drubbing of Seychelles on Wednesday.

Seychelles were hoping for a much better tournament than this as the team put a promising performance against Algeria, but again, the players have failed to deliver at a major tournament.

The Warriors took the lead in the 23rd minute as Ronald Pfumbidzai converted a penalty. The lead was then doubled in the 38th minute as Tatenda Mudehwe hit the back of the net.

The goals kept coming for Zimbabwe as Lawrence Mhlanga netted their third just past the hour mark, and it was 4-0 when Tennage Hadebe slotted another in the 74th minute.

A fifth goal was added in stoppage time as Zimbabwe capped off a dominant victory.

Seychelles have finished the tournament winless in three games, having conceded 11 times and scoring none, proving that one of the main problems with the team is in attack, where we have as yet failed to find a replacement to the greats like Philip Zialor and Danny Rose.

Seychelles lost 0-5 to Swaziland on Monday and before that, coach Ralph Jean-Louis’ men lost 0-1 to neighbours Madagascar.

Despite the win for Zimbabwe though, they still crashed out of the tournament, with Swaziland finishing top of group and Madagascar taking third place and Seychelles at the foot of the table.

Swaziland 1-0 Madagascar

Swaziland retained top spot in Group A as they ground out a 1-0 win over Madagascar.

Felix Badenhorst produced the solitary strike in the 72nd minute to collect all three points for the group leaders.

Swaziland will now meet Zambia in the quarter final of tournament, while in Group B, last night saw Lesotho and Malawi battle it out for top spot, with both teams sitting on six points before the match. The winner will face South Africa at the quarter final stage.
