A new day care centre has opened its doors at Anse Etoile and is ready to welcome children from the district.

Ideally situated across the road to the Anse Etoile primary school, the new facilities have been financed by the government and will be run by a private operator, Julietta Marie.         .

The new day care centre was officially opened yesterday afternoon by the district’s member of the National Assembly (MNA) Melval Dugasse. This was after it had been blessed by the parish priest Father Richard.

The short ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton, principal secretary for social affairs Linda William-Melanie and her colleague for community development and sports Denis Rose, district administrator (DA) Jena Dubignon, parents and children.

In a short speech Minister Meriton remarked that the event was significant in Seychelles’ present development context, as government had replied to one of the needs of the population in one of the country’s largest districts.

“Government attaches much importance to the implementation of small district projects. This particular one will provide parents with a safe and comfortable place to keep their children when they go to work,” he said.

While the minister noted that the concept of child minding has changed with now a comprehensive approach to child development and a good beginning in life, he also observed that today’s women are not only mothers but rather business women and professionals.

“Such a facility will permit them to contribute more in the economic development of our country,” he said, asking of them to make good use of the facilities offered by government.  Those he said include social assistance to send needy children to school.

Guests at the opening ceremony were treated to animation offered by children from Anse Etoile and La Retraite schools, in the form of poems and songs.
