Miss Seychelles … Another World 2016 |20 June 2016

Pageant winners receive prizes

. Increased monthly allowance as from next year

Starting from next year the winner of the Miss Seychelles … Another World beauty pageant will receive a R10,000 allowance every month, Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange  has said.

He was speaking during the ceremony at the Eden Bleu Hotel on Friday evening to reward the proud winners of the Miss Seychelles … Another World 2016 beauty pageant which was held on May 28.

Christine Barbier, who won the coveted crown, along with the other winners received their prizes in the presence of the Minister St Ange, principal secretary for tourism Anne Lafortune, principal secretary for culture Benjamine Rose, the chief executive (CEO) of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) Sherin Naiken, her deputy Nathalie Didon, and sponsors.

Miss Seychelles … Another World 2016 Christine Barbier also won the Miss Personality, Miss Sports and Miss Talent titles. Her first princess Lianne Barbe won the Miss Photogenic and Miss People’s Award. The long sparkling gown of second princess Samiya Albert won her the best evening wear award. The best effort for the beauty with a purpose project went to Sophie Rosette.

The newly crowned Miss Seychelles won R30,000 cash prize and a monthly allowance of R3000 for one year sponsored by the Seychelles Trading Company;  one business class return ticket to Paris proudly sponsored by Air Seychelles; one return ticket to Colombo sponsored by Mihin Lanka; one Samsung Galaxy note 5+ USIM sponsored by Airtel; complementary two-night stay on half-board sponsored by Kempinski; complementary one-night stay for two on half-board sponsored by Constance Lemuria Resort; one brass & coral jewelry set plus one ‘gecko edition’ jewelry set sponsored by Africlassic; one Oxygen Seychelles worth value of R1200 sponsored by La Jeunesse Nail & Beauty Salon; organic beauty products sponsored by My Hair Affection; three months free ecstatic beauty programme sponsored by La Vie en Rose Wellness Lounge.  She also won an evening dress, shoes, bag and jewelry of her choice proudly sponsored by Kiki de Mer; complementary weekend stay for two on half-board with champagne breakfast sponsored by Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa; PADI Open and PADI Advanced Open divers courses sponsored by Big Blue Divers; complementary 60 minutes manicure and one-year free gym membership sponsored by Savoy Seychelles Resort & Spa; one year free membership sponsored by X-Trim Fitness & Wellness Centre; one bottle of champagne sponsored by Kreol Wines and one year of French course, and one year membership sponsored by L’Alliance Francaise de Seychelles, along with other prizes.

Addressing the girls, guests and sponsors, CEO Naiken congratulated all the girls for their courage and strength in stepping forward to compete and for their steadfastness in staying the course throughout.

“You are winners because you have been able to withstand the public pressure, the comments and critics which I should say were harsh and inhumane at times -but as young as you all are and first time being put in public limelight, you have done fairly well in not letting those comments get to you,” she said.

Ms Naiken also extended heartfelt thanks to the faithful sponsors for their contributions to the pageant every year.

At the end of the ceremony Miss Barbier thanked everyone, including all the sponsors. She will also be representing Seychelles in the Miss World Beauty Pageant this year.

As she is now an ambassador for Seychelles, she will be representing the country both at national and international events.
