Interesting and varied’ programme for National Day |22 June 2016

An interesting and varied programme of activities have been put together to celebrate the country’s National and Independence Day on June 29.

The National Celebrations Committee is calling on all Seychellois who can make it to come to Stad Linite on June 29 to celebrate together for this auspicious occasion.

Gerard Lafortune, a member of the National Celebrations Committee responsible for coordinating activities for the parade, said the highlights of the event will be the President’s address to the nation, the biggest flypast over Stad Linite involving about ten aircraft including helicopters, and a show by a group of about sixty Chinese acrobats and artists.

“The parade, comprising over 800 participants, will include close to thirty platoons of military, police, youth groups, elderly, as well as visiting platoons from India, Britain, France and Mauritius,” said Mr Lafortune.

He added there will be a flypast, parachute jump by French paramilitary personnel, recitals by a choir made up of members of different choirs, prayers by the chairman of Seychelles Inter Faith Council (Sifco).

This will be followed by the President’s address and a display by a Chinese artistic group.
The parade will start at 5.45pm and Mr Lafortune is urging everybody attending to be seated by 5.30pm.

As customary, the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) will provide buses from all districts to Stad Linite in the afternoon and return after the parade from Stad Linite. This will be in addition to the regular services. Normal fares will apply.

There will also be a shuttle every 30 minutes from the Victoria Terminal to Stad Linite and back. This shuttle service will be free of charge.
