NDEA communiqué - Man wanted in connection with drug trafficking |02 July 2016

The NDEA (National Drugs Enforcement Agency) is conducting an investigation into the acquisition of several assets that are believed to have been acquired as a result of drug trafficking and organised criminal activity.

In this regard the NDEA is seeking the arrest of a key individual from the Les Mamelles area who is believed to be central to their enquiries.

Meanwhile the NDEA has arrested two males in their early twenties after being found in possession of illegal drugs.

The arrest took place during the course of an operation into organised criminal activity in the Les Mamelles and Anse Aux Pins areas.

The agency also seized a four wheel drive jeep that was being used in connection with the offence.

In a follow-up operation, the agency recovered a substantial consignment of cash from a house in Les Mamelles that is believed to be the proceeds of drug trafficking.

The cash, in excess of R160,000, was recovered concealed in the house belonging to a person who is suspected to be involved in organised criminal activity.

Those arrested were brought before the Magistrates Court yesterday.

One of the men has been remanded in custody to appear again on July 8, while the second was unconditionally released.
