Travel & Leisure World’s Best Award 2016 ceremony |23 July 2016

Seychelles named number one island in Africa and the Middle East

 

Seychelles has been named by Travel & Leisure readers as the number one Island in Africa & the Middle East.

David Germain, the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) director for Africa and the Americas was present to receive the award for Seychelles at the award ceremony held at 620 Loft & Garden at the Rockefeller Center in New York City on Wednesday this week to celebrate the 2016 Annual World’s Best Awards.

About 130 guests joined Travel & Leisure Publisher Joseph Messer and Travel & Leisure editor Nathan Lump at the ceremony. 

The ceremony honoured Travel & Leisure readers picks of the Best Hotels, Destinations, Airlines, Cruise Lines, Outfitters and transportation brands in Travel. 

On accepting the award for Seychelles Mr Germain said: “The Seychelles Tourism Board and Seychelles as a whole is extremely proud of this achievement.

Seychelles is a unique group of islands with outstanding natural beauty and unique attractions, a destination with a committed approach to sustainable tourism, providing an example of best practice for other destinations around the world,” he said.

“The award helps to garner recognition and provides a significant amount of visibility for our islands to a worldwide audience.

It proves further that our beautiful islands are becoming more and more popular, topping the list of the most desirable holiday destinations worldwide,” Mr Germain added.
