Baie Lazare road projects to ease the lives of residents |25 July 2016

Two road projects being undertaken in the Baie Lazare district are expected to significantly improve the lives of residents.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs & Transport Joël Morgan, accompanied by district administrator (DA) Trefle Revera and other ministry officials, visited the two projects on Friday afternoon.

The projects comprise the construction of the Esparon Road (Anse Soleil) and a road widening at Dame Le Roi being undertaken by the Seychelles Land Transport Agency (SLTA).

The road widening project which has already started will ease the movements of SPTC buses while the Esparon Road (Anse Soleil) project consists of building an access road to the main road, so that all the residents can benefit.

Both projects are expected to be completed in two months’ time.

Minister Morgan pointed out that such visit allows him and his team to assess progress of the ongoing road projects in that district.

“The first project we visited was at Dame Le Roi; it is a road enlargement project specifically designed to allow SPTC buses to do a circular circuit from Bougainville (Anse Royale) to Val D’Andorre (Baie Lazare). Such project will help the community in that residents will have easy access to SPTC buses, instead of having to walk long distances to catch a bus,” he said.

With regard to the second project the minister pointed out that the new road will give people easy and more comfortable access to the main road. In the past they used to make do of a small footpath to access the main road.

The visit was also an opportunity for Minister Morgan to interact with the residents of Baie Lazare, to understand their concerns and needs.

DA Revera said that both projects will be finalised in approximately two months.

Both projects are costing the government around R360,000.

Two weeks ago the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton visited the same Dame Le Roi projects as part of a visit he undertook in that district.
