Football: Cosafa Under-17 Championship-Seychelles lose again |27 July 2016

Seychelles are out of the Cosafa Under-17 Championship after their second narrow 0-1 loss in group A on Monday.

Against hosts Mauritius at the Stade Anjalay, the Seychelles team lost 0-1 and the winner came in the   77th minute through Matteo Monple and according to reports his long-range strike was a worthy winner.

Seychelles finished the game with 10 men after Brandon Molle received a straight red card five minutes later.

The team, who lost their first game to South Africa on a 0-1 score on Saturday, will now meet Namibia in their final encounter.

In the group’s other match on Monday, South Africa took a big step towards the semifinals with a 4-0 victory over Namibia.

With two wins from two games in their pool, the South Africans need just a point against hosts Mauritius today to seal their spot in the knockout stages.

South Africa were dominant against the Namibians and had the lead inside 10 minutes when Luke le Roux converted a penalty.

They doubled that advantage on 28 minutes through man-of-the-match James Monyane, and further extended the lead just after halftime as Siphamandla Ntuli scored his second of the tournament.

South Africa added a fourth goal in injury-time when Lani Mchilizeli’s cross floated into the Namibian net.

Meanwhile in group B, yesterday’s games were to decide which teams join defending champions Zambia in the semifinals from that pool.

The Zambians had already assured themselves of a semifinal spot after a comprehensive 3-0 win over Malawi on Sunday and were to take on Madagascar, who had already been ousted from the competition.

It was therefore a straight shootout between Malawi and East African guest nation Kenya.

A draw would be enough for the Malawians to advance on goal difference, meaning it was all or nothing for the Kenyans.
