Football: Division three - Glacis extend unbeaten run with win over Beau Vallon |29 July 2016

It was double celebration for third division leaders Glacis FC as they beat Beau Vallon 2-0 and later learned they have been awarded their three points in the match they lost to Seypec, thus keeping them unbeaten in the league.

Manager Denis Gabriel revealed the information to the press and to his players after their 12th league match played on Wednesday afternoon at Stad Popiler.

Apparently the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) awarded the match to Glacis FC after it was found that Seypec fielded a player who is still registered with first division side Northern Dynamo. The match was played on Thursday July 21 at Stad Popiler and Seypec beat Glacis FC 2-0.

In Wednesday’s match Glacis FC put pressure on Beau Vallon early in the first half and after a couple of missed chances, captain and defender Jerry Azemia opened the score to put Glacis FC 1-0 up in the 10th minute, with a low shot in an empty net as goalkeeper Christian Dogley was way out of his goal. The goal was scored after the Beau Vallon defenders failed to clear a left wing free kick taken by Glacis’ Ricky Bijoux.

Attacking their opponents’ goal, Glacis FC continued to pile up the pressure for more goals and another quickly came five minutes later. Glacis FC, dominant in the midfield, were 2-0 up after Antonio Ramanantena intercepted the ball, passed it on the left to Carlos Onezime who intelligently dribbled inside and lobbed Beau Vallon’s goalkeeper Dogley as he again left his goalline. With two goals in 15 minutes the Glacis FC fans were on their feet for more but it did not materialise up to the end of the first half. Glacis goalkeeper Jules Monnaie had a quiet first half as Beau Vallon FC rarely attacked his goal.

The second half started on the same note as the first as Glacis FC continued to surge forward for goals but were met with some resistance from Beau Vallon FC who earned a penalty in the 55th minute. With Glacis FC defending the northern goal, Antonio Ramanantena played a back pass to Sheeve Rose who while trying to return the pass, the ball was intercepted by Beau Vallon FC’s Joshua Emilien who dribbled into the penalty area and was brought down by Ramanantena. The load fell on Marcus Emilien to reduce the score but his penalty was saved by goalkeeper Monnaie.

Both teams made two substitutions each but no other goals came for Glacis FC and Beau Vallon did not manage to score either.

Glacis FC manager Denis Gabriel said he was not happy with his team’s performance even though they had won: “I do not know if we were too overconfident. We scored two very early goals and we missed too many. We must do better next time when we meet stronger teams”.

Glacis FC are still leading the table with 34 points from 12 games and Beau Vallon FC are in ninth position on 10 points. Mont Fleuri FC are also unbeaten in the league.
