25 primary school teachers gain new skills to enhance learning |30 July 2016

A group of 25 in-service primary teachers who have recently completed a learning journey with the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (Site) have received their certificates.

The certificate presentation ceremony took place yesterday afternoon in the auditorium of the Site in the presence of the Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon, principal secretaries and other top officials from the ministry, as well as the graduates and families.

The programme was introduced last year to support teaching and learning in primary schools in order to strengthen teaching and learning foundation, thus giving the young learners the necessary support they need in schools.

The introduction of the programme was also aimed at providing extra support to early childhood teachers in catering for the needs of all children.

While addressing the new graduates, the director of Site, Rosianna Jules, pointed out that the training is a real investment for the ministry as the graduates make a vital contribution to the teaching and learning process with the primary students.

“Site has provided you with the platform to refresh, grow and improve your daily classroom practices. I urge you to keep applying your newly acquired competencies to enhance the learning experiences of the children in your care. Learning, as we all know, is a life-long process. We strongly hope that the success of your journey will be a motivation for your on-going professional growth, and encouragement for other teachers to embark on similar learning adventures and an inspiration for your students to never give up their quest for knowledge,” she said.

On behalf of his newly graduated colleagues Raymond Lepère, an art teacher from Plaisance primary, thanked the government through the Ministry of Education for providing them with the programme which he said will enhance their performance.

Mr Lepère concluded by thanking the course facilitators for their patience and dedication throughout the course and on behalf of his colleagues pledged to put into practice the skills learned and knowledge gained.

During the certificate ceremony all the graduates presented a token of appreciation to Minister Mondon and the principal secretary for early childhood, primary and secondary education Merida Delcy.

All graduates received a certificate and a token of appreciation.

The certificate presentation ceremony was also interspersed by poem recitals and song performances.
