Seychelles to host African Tax Research Network’s secondannual congress |27 August 2016

The African Tax Research Network second annual congress will be held here from September 5-7 under the theme ‘Financing sustainable development in Africa: Identifying untapped and under-utilised sources of revenue’.

The congress is being co-hosted locally by the Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) and the University of Seychelles (UniSey) in partnership with the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), based in South Africa.

This year’s congress to take place at the Savoy Seychelles Resort & Spa, is expected to attract around 150 delegates from across Africa and beyond and will present an opportunity for academics, researchers, tax administrators, students, tax practitioners, consultants and decision-makers on fiscal and tax policy in Africa, to gather and discuss different aspects relating to national, regional and international tax matters.

Through debates and applied research, the annual congress allows the creation of a sound knowledge base, policy analysis and thought leadership on tax in Africa which will improve taxation on the continent and ultimately serve the African development agenda.

The African Tax Research Network (ATRN) was established in August 2013 from an ATAF convened in August 2013 in Nairobi, as a result of the need to identify potential synergies and linkage areas between academics and tax officials from the ATAF member countries.
ATAF is a network promoting cooperation, knowledge sharing and capacity building among African revenue authorities. It seeks to ensure greater synergy and cooperation in capacity development among all relevant stakeholders to reduce duplication and give greater support to African tax administrations.
