FAO director general on official visit next week |27 August 2016

 

José Graziano da Silva, the director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, will visit Seychelles next week.

Mr da Silva is on an official tour of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) countries in support of its regional programme on food and nutrition security.

The visit starts in Madagascar on Monday and Tuesday, Mauritius on Wednesday and Thursday followed by Seychelles on Thursday and Friday.

In Madagascar he will hold talks with the head of State H.E Hery Rajaonarimampianina while in Mauritius, he will attend the ‘Towards COP22: Ministerial Conference and public-private dialogue on Climate-smart Ocean Economies in Africa’, at the invitation of the World Bank and meet the new Indian Ocean Commission’s secretary general, Comorian Hamada Madi Boléro.

During his visit here Mr da Silva will pay a courtesy call on President James Michel and hold talks with several ministers and civil society organisations working with the FAO.

A field visit to FAO project sites in Seychelles is also being organised.
