National Assembly election 2016 - 63 people on remand cast their votes |09 September 2016

Sixty-three people on remand at the Montagne Posée correctional centre as well as at various police stations around the country, voted yesterday at a special polling station set for them.

Three out of the 63 people on remand who were eligible to vote but whose names were not on the list, did get the chance to vote however since their names appeared on the master register.

The electoral officer in charge of that station, Douglas Accouche, said everything went well except for a slight delay in the morning.

“There was a delay for the list of people on remand at the Anse Aux Pins police station to arrive at Montagne Posée which caused a slight setback during voting, but aside from that everything went smoothly,” he said.

Various candidates from the different political parties taking part in the election were seen at the station yesterday as well as local and international observers.
