Muslims in Seychelles celebrate Eid-ul-Adha |13 September 2016

The muslim community in Seychelles organised a family fun day yesterday morning to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha (festival of sacrifice).

The celebration took place at the Paradis des Enfants, Victoria, where the muslim community came together for breakfast, lunch and socialise.

The celebration started with a traditional Eid-ul-Adha prayer yesterday morning at the mosque at Beaufond Lane.

Eid-ul-Adha is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (also known as Abraham) to follow Allah's (God's) command to sacrifice his son Ishmael. Muslims around the world observe this event.

Eid-ul-Adha is Islam’s second most important religious festival on the Muslim calendar and is observed after the Hajj – the annual pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca) in Saudi Arabia – and Muslims sacrifice animals to please God.

Eid-ul-Adha is also a day of remembrance as the Muslims make a fresh start of the day by a session of congregational prayers to Allah.

During Eid-ul-Adha the muslim community can sacrifice a sheep, cow, goat, buffalo or camel to provide food to the less fortunate.
