Letter to the Editor - ‘St. Gappy des élections honnêtes’ |16 September 2016

Now that the National Assembly Election is over and has been seen by all observers group as being “free, fair, credible and transparent” and that the observers have called it to be a credit to the people of Seychelles and to the consolidation of the democratic process in Seychelles, it would appear to me that the most important winner out of this contest would be the chairman of the Election Commission, Mr Hendrick Gappy and his associates in the Commission.

From being seen up to Election Day as being unfit for the job and for being the target of many allegations, it is ironical that since the election results have been announced, there has not been one word about him. Perhaps now he can be canonised and become “St. Gappy des élections honnêtes”.

Certainly Mr Gappy and his group worked under terrible pressure, at times under difficult climate conditions and should therefore be deserving of certain recognition for their commitment and dedication to duty and democracy in Seychelles.
