Mont Fleuri crèche gets playground |01 October 2016

Children having fun in their new playground soon after its official opening

Crèche children at Mont Fleuri primary school can now enjoy their free time on their new playground sponsored by National Early Childhood Care and Education trust Fund (NECCE).

The playground was officially opened yesterday by the NECCE Trust Fund Noella Gonthier. It has been sponsored entirely by NECCE.

The project forms part of the hard work and devotion that a group of parents started in 2013 to make the school come to life.

Present at the ceremony were the principal secretary for early childhood, primary & secondary education Merida Delcy, member of the National Assembly for Mont Fleuri district Jean-François Ferrari, the director for primary schools Cyril Pillay, the head teacher of Mont Fleuri primary school Steve Hoareau, members of the NECCE, parents along with other guests.

“Today it is a great pleasure to officially open this newly built playground at the Mont Fleuri primary school. We all have worked hard to make this project become a reality. Physical exercise is a must for the mental health of our children. The playground will help them grow mentally and physically,” Mrs Gonthier said.

She also expressed the wish that the playground becomes a place where the children can play and have real fun.

Head teacher Hoareau stated that such project started in 2013, by a group of parents.

“We have waited so many years for such project; our children can finally have a playground to play while they are free. It all started in 2013 when a dynamic group of parents initiated the project to build a playground. So they started raising money for such project,” he said.

He added that with the help of Vicky Gendron, new ideas were brought forward on how to start such project.

“In March this year, the school made an application to receive a grant with the National Early Childhood Care and Education trust fund. And they accepted our proposition to finance the playground. The school really appreciates such beautiful work that has been done to finalise the playground,” he said.

The newly built playground will benefit the children from crèche to primary 2.

The ceremony was also animated by poems, songs by the school choir and dances. Father Edwin Mathiot was also present to bless the playground.
