‘I am looking forward to visiting Seychelles and entertaining the people’

Top Indian playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan will be performing in Seychelles during the Seychelles-India Day celebration from October 14-16.

Ms Chauhan, who has ruled the top charts with songs like Dhoom Machale, Sheela ki Jawani, Gun Gun Guna, Te Amo, Ishq Sufiyana, started her singing career at the age of four.

The following is an interview with the Indian star who is described by the media in India as the ‘Queen of Item Songs’ and who has recorded songs for Urdu, Oriya, Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telegu, Bhojpuri, Bengali, Assamese, Gujurati and Nepali films.

Seychelles NATION:  You are expected to be in Seychelles for the Seychelles-India Day 2016. How excited are you for the gala night?

Sunidhi Chauhan: I am very excited because I have never been to Seychelles before. I am looking forward to not only visiting the place but also entertaining the people. So it is going to be a great experience. I have learned such great things about Seychelles. They are beautiful islands. People must go there once in a lifetime. I am very happy that I have been given this opportunity to be there on such a wonderful day – the Seychelles-India Day. It makes it even more special for me.

Seychelles NATION: What can the people of Seychelles expect from you during your visit?

Sunidhi Chauhan: A good performance. A great performance from me and I am looking forward to meeting them all.

Seychelles NATION: What do you know about Seychelles?

Sunidhi Chauhan: I have heard that it is a beautiful place and that I should definitely go there once. I am happy I will be coming over shortly.

Seychelles NATION:You have sung in various languages. If you are asked to sing in Creole, the native language of Seychelles, will you do so?

Sunidhi Chauhan: If I get the chance, yes. Why not?

Seychelles NATION: What do you like more, beaches or mountains?

Sunidhi Chauhan: I am a mountain person actually. But I do enjoy a lot being on beaches as well. I remember once when we were in Mauritius and I had gone to the beach. It was a great experience. It depends if I am on the beach with a group and not alone, then I get to enjoy being on the beach. I like to be alone if I am surrounded by mountains.

Seychelles NATION: You are very popular in India. Is it easy to deal with fame?

Sunidhi Chauhan: I’ve been working in this industry for the past 20 years. I have enjoyed each and every second of the journey. I wish to do a lot more. It is not a job, singing for me is a passion and thankfully I do this for a living. I am happy that I am getting to do something I truly love.

Seychelles NATION: You featured alongside Enrique Iglesias in the song ‘Heartbeat’. How was it?

Sunidhi Chauhan: It was a fun experience. Thankfully there was a lot of scope to blend an Indian element into that song. And it kind of worked. Sometimes when you do it in collaboration it comes a little odd. But in this case it came smoothly. People liked it. Honestly, I didn’t expect this kind of pretty appreciation for this song. I believe that it is very popular in Seychelles as well. So I am looking forward to doing the same for them.
