A problem we have at Cerf Island |21 October 2016

At about 7pm on October 18, 2016 I saw a fire started by thoughtless, inconsiderate, unrespectable, incompetent obnoxious people who came to Cerf Island to barbecue in the course of the day.

The fire in one of the accompanying pictures is the remains of their barbeques, which they left or threw into the forest.

Lucky for us I saw the flames in time. Another 10/15 minutes, it would have been impossible for us to put this fire out, as it was getting out of control very quickly.

This could have burnt a big portion of Cerf Island including the resident’s houses in a very short space of time.

What can we do? This fire was contained just in time by 5 people, (Cerf Island residents).

Charter boat people bring their clients and enter private property without permission, doing whatever they wish, and when approached and asked to leave the property, some can be very aggressive.

People on charter boats are given toilet paper to go to relieve themselves on private property anywhere they wish. This is a recurring situation that we have most days of the week.

These incidents, are not only proving to be very dangerous, but are a lack of respect for the environment, and the residents of Cerf Island. A lack of respect for the clientele they take, and a very thoughtless and careless attitude to animals and people placed in danger.

Fighting among themselves in front of tourists for a place is also no good for Seychelles.

Charter boats should not have licenses to carry tourists or any other persons, placing people in these conditions or circumstances of which they keep insisting.

They do not own property here and are not given permission to enter private property here on Cerf Island.

This is extremely thoughtless, inconsiderate, unrespectable, and incompetent by these people coming here that don’t care about anything other than themselves, or taking money from their clients.

This has also provoked a situation for others whereby we do not want anyone here now.

The accompanying photos show some of the damage done to the environment as a result of such inconsiderate actions.
