Teacher’s Week 2016 - Highlights of the teacher award ceremony and gala dinner |22 October 2016

This year’s Teacher’s Week closed with a gala dinner at the Savoy resort and spa on Saturday October 8.  The highlight of the evening was the annual award presentation ceremony during which teachers with 25 years of continuous service in the profession, retiring teachers and the longest serving head teacher and teacher were rewarded for their hard work, devotion and commitment.

Through the ceremony, the Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment it made 26 years ago to celebrate the profession and paid tribute to teachers for their long years of service that they have dedicated to educating the citizens of Seychelles.

Teachers with 25 years of continuous service are Flavienne Cedras, Doreen Innocent Leon, Sandra Sultan, Germaine Tamboo, Marie-Alice Berlouis, Berard Jules, Roy Stravens, Marie-Rose Burka, Jimmy Robert, Milicente Arlette Carolus, Catherine Marguerite, Crasiane Radegonde, Sylvette Madeleine, Rassel Bibi, Elsie Otar, Lynda Jeanne, Kevan Monthy, Nicole Esther, Anette Cafrine, Ralph Jean-Louis, Marie-May Iman, Ina Joseph, Josepha Esparon, Bryna Lozaique, Maureen Mondelly, Andre Sinon, Clothilde Marie,  lain Reddy, Patrick Havelock and Maryanne Marie.

Retiring teachers who were recognised for their commitment in the profession are Marguerite Francoise, Lucie Cadeau, Thecla Arnephy, Ursula Loizeau, Jenna Marie, Omar Fari, David Adrienne, Florida Fideria, Agnes Figaro, Maryline Canaya, Jeanette Come, Jenny Nolin, Nizelle Hoareau, Lizanne Moumou, Julita Mondon, Ghislaine Labrosse, Rosemary Bastienne, Bibianne Fred and Anne-Marie Elizabeth.

The longest serving head teacher is Fatima Agathine and longest serving teacher Militna Jeanne, with 46 years in the teaching profession.

In her address on the occasion the Minister for Education, Macsuzy Mondon, reflected on the theme for 2016 Teacher’s Week ‘La réussite de mes étudiants, mon engagement’, which she said is a lucid reminder of the ultimate raison d’être of teachers and educators; of the magnitude of the influence teachers have on their students and the extent to which the power of their teaching impact and transform the world and it speaks volumes about the high status we attribute to our teachers and their essential role in nation building.

The evening ended with dinner, dancing and other entertainment.
