Seychelles Hilton Hotels donates to La Retraite home for elderly |27 October 2016

A group of employees from Seychelles Hilton Hotels spent the day yesterday doing maintenance work in different apartments at the La Retraite home for the elderly after they had made a donation of a variety of household items to the residents.

Led by their human resource and training manager Doreen D’Souza, the group brought a vacuum cleaner, a batch of wooden storage trays, cushions, mats… to improve the comfort of the 20 residents currently living at the home.

Mrs D’Souza said the initiative forms part of Seychelles Hilton Hotels’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme which is carried out during the month of October each year and is better known as the global month of service.

“We are really happy to be able to enhance the quality of comfort of the residents through the different items we have brought which they need for everyday use and also spend some time with them to  spruce up their home by doing some maintenance work and giving a fresh coat of paint where necessary,” Mrs D’Souza said.

She added that more items will be brought in the coming days as they are gathered together by hotel staff.

Sylvia Stravens, the director for homes for the elderly, welcomed the initiative and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Seychelles Hilton Hotels for choosing the La Retraite home to make the donation.

She said the staff and residents are always grateful for such support which makes them feel that they have not been forgotten.

“While there are people who are employed to help the residents there is always room for more support to continue to enhance the quality of life and comfort of the residents,” Ms Stravens said.

She called on other organisations and companies to emulate such good initiatives. But as she welcomed such initiatives Ms Stravens said while many of the 20 residents receive the support and visits from their family members, there are those who do not receive many visits.

“Residents are really happy when family members visit them and this in itself helps a lot and greatly boost their moral and quality of life,” she added.
