Barclays Bank Seychelles has donated two cheques for a total value of R165,000.

A first cheque for R150,000 was presented to the Festival Kreol committee (FKC) while the second one for R15,000 went to the Cancer Concern Association (CCA).

The handover of the cheques took place yesterday morning at the Barclays Capital City boardroom, Victoria in the presence of the bank’s managing director (MD) Johan van Schalkyk, the principal secretary for culture Benjamine Rose, the chairman of the CCA Bishop French Chang-Him and staff of Barclays Bank Seychelles.

The R150,000 will help the FKC to organise the Festival Kreol along with promoting our culture whereas the R15,000 cheque will help the CCA raise more awareness on the disease.

Incidentally Barclays Bank Seychelles recently lost one of its devoted staff Colleen Morel to cancer.

MD van Schalkyk said both donations will benefit the community, adding that Barclays Bank Seychelles always gives back to the community, because without the people Barclays Bank Seychelles won’t prosper.

“We have done a lot to recognise the importance of the community, if the country prospers, business will prosper.  It is important for big organisations like Barclays Bank Seychelles to give back to the community since they are the heart and soul of this country. The Festival Kreol is an important activity, it is the DNA of our country and culture, we are all different because of our culture,” he said.

He added that the donation to the CCA will help the association to better make people aware of such disease that can affect all of us.

“When we think about cancer, everybody thinks about death. Recently we lost one of our colleagues, Colleen Morel, to cancer. If we all work together we can all make a difference,” he said.

PS Rose thanked Barclays Bank Seychelles for the wonderful donation.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Culture and the FKC, we are very thankful for the donation. Such donation will benefit the community,” she said.

Bishop Chang-Him also thanked Barclays Bank Seychelles for its generosity.

“I want to thank Barclays Bank Seychelles for this gesture. Very soon R50,000 will be donated to the Oncology unit, and next month we are donating a bus which will serve patients who are undergoing chemotherapy at the hospital. The bus will take the patients home after treatment,” he said.
