Local artists from far and wide unite on charity Christmas album |12 November 2016

The Christmas season is a special time to galvanise unity and reach out to help the less fortunate in society. This includes providing food, clothing and toys for families to enable them to experience the joy of the Christmas Season, giving warmth, love and hope. That’s what Christmas should be all about, a time to share our good fortune with our neighbours in need across the world.

It is in this good faith that a group of local Seychellois artists spread across Canada, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Seychelles, who call themselves ‘Seychelles Universelle Artists’ (SUA) are looking to make the holiday a little brighter for the orphanage children. SUA has recently launched a Christmas compilation album featuring different local artists in a bid to raise funds for Foyer de la Providence orphanage, and helping the children to have a much brighter Christmas.

The 12-track album of Christmas and New Year season tunes feature different artists residing both in Seychelles or in different parts of the world. They include David André, Serge Camille, José Charles, Philip Toussaint, Emmanuel Marie, Jany Letourdie, Jean-Marc Volcy, Anthony Gabriel, Billy & Erica Rangasamy, Georges Payet, Allen Camille, Emile Camille, George Camille, Stella Nibourette, Ron Payet, Vanessa Julliete.

The main song ‘C’est Noël’, which is also the title of the album, is sung by 15 artists, Foyer de la Providence and La Digue Groupe de Priere de Notre Dame de L’Assomption choir. It was recorded in Canada (Sonny Black Studio), UAE (Somebody Scream Studio) and in Seychelles at George Payet’s, Peter Jules’ and Jean-Marc Volcy’s studios.

The masterminds behind the Christmas charity album are Billy and Erica Rangasamy, a Seychellois couple currently living and working in Abu Dhabi but has got Seychelles close to heart. They stated that every children needs to have something special for Christmas. It is the 3rd year they produce a charity album to support the little orphans.

“The vision is simple; we want to help the children at the Foyer de la Providence through music. We invited artists worldwide to be part of such amazing gift, to raise funds for the children at the orphanage. They ALL said YES. We were deeply touched -  WOW, PRAISE GOD!” the couple said.

“The theme of our album is ‘Peace & Love’, we want to promote happiness among the children, make them feel special and loved,” Billy and Erica added.

The album includes a variety of sega, reggae, ragga, slow, waltz and tropical zouk songs.

The album can be purchased at the usual outlets on Mahé, for example Kot Do, Ray’s Music Room, Continental Stores, Codevar.

‘C’est Noël’ compilation charity CD costs only R100.

Billy and Erica want to thank everyone who contributed to make this album a success such as SUA artists, the various studios, sponsors who are helping to materialise this unique project.

“‘C’est Noёl’ is a ‘We are the world’ a la Creole style sung in French and Creole to target our Indian Ocean friends,” the couple added.

This unique song composed by Billy and Erica, musically arranged by Emmanuel Marie and George Payet, was a true universal challenge.

They also want to say thanks also to all the artists who shared their song to provide a Seychelles mix to the album.

“A big thank you to our dearest parents, families and friends for their encouragement and support in producing this unique charity album, a compilation of work from all the artists for a special charity cause in supporting the beloved children of our local Seychelles Foyer de la Providence Orphanage,” the couple said.

“Help us, let us unite and buy a CD to help the little sweet ones,” Billy and Erica concluded.
