New ‘Transparency Initiative Seychelles’ joins fight against corruption |09 December 2016

A local association under the name ‘Transparency Initiative Seychelles’ has been registered with the Registrar of Association and its mission is to help in the fight against corruption.

The founding members of ‘Transparency Initiative Seychelles’ are Chrystold Chetty, Cyril Bonnelame, Marlon Naiken, Josianne Moustache and Audrey Adam.

A formal launch of the association will be done in the near future. The objects of the association are to promote constructive debate and dialogue among various actors on the situation of corruption, good governance, transparency, accountability and integrity in Seychelles and to help develop the organisational and human capacities of the same actors.

To meet its objectives, ‘Transparency Initiative Seychelles’ will cooperate with total independence with all citizens and all groups, business entities, and non-governmental organisations, authorities and public institutions or international organisations which are determined to fight corruption, by building coalitions. The association will also help improve public awareness and advance the general education of the public in the promotion of good governance and integrity in business ethics in national and international business transactions and public and third sector administration. It will pursue its objectives through consultations, research, meetings, the use of media and its contacts and affiliation to international organisations and institutions. This shall not include the involvement into investigation for exposure purposes of individual corruption cases, a work vested into the Anti-Corruption Commission.

‘Transparency Initiative Seychelles’ has been accredited as the local contact point for ‘Transparency International’, and will become a full chapter of the international organisation once all conditions of membership are met.

‘Transparency International’ is a global movement sharing one vision: a world in which government, business, civil society and the daily lives of people are free of corruption.
