Passing of Auditor General Marc Benstrong |24 December 2016

President Faure describes him as ‘a hard working professional’

 

President Danny Faure has expressed his deepest condolences to the family of Auditor General Marc Benstrong who passed away late yesterday morning while on duty.

President Faure has described Mr Benstrong as “a hard working professional, who demonstrated strong commitment and integrity in the discharge of his responsibilities”.

He added that “his passing away is a huge loss to the public service”.

Aged 57, Mr Benstrong had been in the public service for 36 years. He started his career in the Ministry of Finance and had risen to the rank of director general for financial planning and control before being appointed as Auditor General in October 2001.

He had completed two seven-year terms as Auditor General and begun a third term in October 2015.
