Pirogues

Yet another of our extinct species! Since the time of the First Settlement in 1770, our pirogue was a means of livelihood for many generations of Seychellois fishermen. Before the opening of roads that connected the districts of South Mahé to Victoria, and before the arrival of motor vehicles, inhabitants travelled to town by pirogue.

Pirates Arms

Recently demolished, this was how the original Pirates Arms looked like in the late 1940s. It was a restaurant and a visitor accommodation establishment that also hosted weddings, parties and official receptions.
