STC Hypermarket clinches Best Retail Services award of 2016 |30 December 2016

The Seychelles Trading Company (STC) Hypermarket has clinched the Best Retail Services award of 2016, making it the first parastatal to win such an award.

According to the SCCI (Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry) criteria, all retail shops and services as well as hardware stores are eligible to be nominated for the award which encompasses the types of products on offer, the comfort of the place, prices and customer services, product and marketing, value for money and community integration.

In an interview the chief executive (CEO) of STC, Veronique Laporte, said the award symbolises the hard work and great efforts of the whole STC team, great collaboration with local and international suppliers, and the support of Société Seychelloise D’Invéstissement Ltd (SSI) and other stakeholders.

“Most importantly it reflects the recognition of the business community and satisfaction of customers of the hypermarket and I’m so proud of STC to win the  ‘Best Retail Services’ as it is the first time we win such an award and there are  many more to come,” she said.

“Regardless of the difficulties we face, this award is as a result of the whole STC team who worked tirelessly, not only hypermarket staff, but all other employees as they continued to manage the other STC outlets so that I could focus more on Hypermarket. If they did not do that, it would have been much more challenging,” she said.

As for the local suppliers and wholesalers such as farmers, butcheries, and electronic providers she had this to say: “Without them, I would not have local fruits and vegetables to offer nor have an electronics’ corner for our esteemed customers.”

Ms Laporte thanked the SCCI for this award and as well as the nomination for ‘Best Wholesale’, as these came at a time when her staff were feeling discouraged due to continuous speculation and negative criticism on STC.

“We did not get the ‘Best Wholesale’ award but by virtue of getting the nomination it’s still very good for STC as it motivates and lifts up the spirits of the employees to carry on and do much better although STC is currently being unfairly criticised,”  she said.

Ms Laporte dedicates this award to her staff, customers, and suppliers and took the opportunity to congratulate and thank them.

She said some of the critics give the impression that STC is not doing what the government wants it to do.

“As CEO of STC, I’m delivering what I was appointed to do and that includes giving the people of Seychelles a variety of products at reasonable prices,” she said.

She felt that STC is being targeted for doing the right thing but also acknowledges that there is a need for STC to educate all its customers on product varieties and prices, for them to get a better understanding as to the various assortments of goods that STC makes available on the shelves of all its retail outlets.
