Ex-Moulinie housing estate - Some houses to get new roofs |07 February 2017

Houses which were built in the first phase of the ex-Moulinie housing project at Baie Ste Anne on Praslin between 2002 and 2004 will soon get new roofs.

These comprise 16 three-bedroom units.

According to the Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport (MHILT)

this is because the roofs are old, damaged and leaking.

Re-tendering for the re-roofing work has already been launched and is restricted to contractors who had previously tendered.

“We are re-tendering this project because in the tender process the Procurement Oversight Unit observed an error in the tender procedure,” said Adalberto Crespo Morales, project manager at MHILT.

The ex-Moulinie housing estate was constructed in two phases. The first phase comprised two semi-detached houses each consisting of 8 three-bedroom units, making a total of 16 three-bedroom units.

The second phase comprised 11 blocks of 6 units each, totalling 66 units. Twenty-four units are of two bedrooms while 42 units are of three bedrooms.

The first phase of the ex-Moulinie housing estate started in September 2002 and was completed in July 2004. Allied Builders was the contractor who carried out the work. The roof tiles used in this project were concrete tiles and, according to Mr Morales, do not present any danger to the environment as there is no asbestos on it.

Meanwhile the Property Management Corporation (PMC) is undertaking more renovation work at other housing estates.

During his visit in January last year to the Remise housing estate at Anse Royale, President Danny Faure, who was then vice-president, said the government has pledged financial help to the PMC to help it solve pertinent issues on housing estates so that they are resolved within a two-year period.

He added that government would set up a remedial programme every year to give the company funds for such maintenance.
