ANHRD holds second public awareness session |17 February 2017

The Agency for National Human Resource Development (ANHRD) yesterday hosted its second public awareness session where it showcased different types of scholarships and tertiary training opportunities on offer to Seychellois candidates.

The awareness session, held at the Seafront Restaurant at the Maison du Peuple, was opened to all students who are considering their career choices, to all employees who want to enhance their academic baggage, as well as to the general public.

Various universities from Malaysia, Mauritius, South Africa, United Kingdom and our own University of Seychelles and the Seychelles Tourism Academy were represented at the session.

Joel Morgan, Minister for Education & Human Resource Development, officially launched the session in the presence of high officials of the education department, ANHRD chief executive Terence Françoise, representatives of the above mentioned universities and students themselves.

In his opening address Minister Morgan said the ANHRD, which aims at fostering a culture of training and lifelong learning at individual, organisational and national levels of employability, remains committed to its vision of ensuring that human resource development matches the evolving needs of the country.

“This public awareness session provides a platform for promotion and interaction, bringing tertiary education closer to potential students, thus facilitating the process of matching training opportunities with the appropriate learning programme,” said the minister.

He added during the past years, we have seen an increase in the number of students who have opted to pursue their tertiary studies both locally and overseas and that for 2016, one hundred and eleven (111) A-Level graduates have qualified for a government of Seychelles scholarship. For this same year, the minister said, ANHRD has approved a total of 278 scholarships.

“It is with this in mind that ANHRD has taken the initiative to once again organise today’s activity to provide students and members of the public alike with first-hand knowledge of the different scholarships on offer and the different fields of study available at venues approved by ANHRD,” remarked Mr Morgan.

This year for the second public awareness session, Mr Morgan noted that the number of participating universities and institutions have increased to 18, compared to 9 last year.

He added that the universities present here are known for their proven reputation of outstanding quality and excellence with their courses on offer spanning a range of disciplines and subjects across engineering and sciences, art and social sciences. Some are also accredited by international bodies, whereby the programmes are internationally tested for quality.

“This in itself guarantees the best of training opportunities for our students, thus enhancing the chance of providing graduates of quality with competencies to meet the national needs. It is worth mentioning that presently there is a total of eighty nine students currently studying at the eighteen international universities represented here today. The number of students is expected to increase this year,” he said.

To the students Minister Morgan has the following message: “Students, I urge you to make the most of this opportunity that is being offered to you so that when you leave here today, you will not only go away with the responses to your questions, but most importantly you will leave with an expanded knowledge to help you better chart your future career aspirations.”

The accompanying photos show guests and students visiting the various information stands to know more about the various opportunities available for further studies.
