Librarians get innovative ideas to better their performance |21 February 2017

Thirty-two librarians from fourteen countries are gathering at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino for the 2nd convening for the International Network of Emerging Library Innovators (INELI).

The four-day workshop, organised by the African Library Association (AFLIA) in collaboration with the Seychelles National Library (SNL), is to enhance the librarians’ knowledge of new innovative ideas about their work.

AFLIA is an independent international not-for-profit organisation which pursues the interests of library and information association, library and information services, librarians and information workers and the communities they serve in Africa.

The thirty two delegates including two librarians from SNL – the principal librarian Anne-Mary Robert and senior librarian Christiane Adeline – all share a passion for public libraries and the life-changing services they can provide for all individuals.

The executive director of AFLIA Helena Asamoah-Hassan stated that such workshop was for public librarians.

“We have thirty-two people from fourteen countries in Africa, and we are trying to introduce them to new ways of doing public library works, most of it using technology also using current information to develop the libraries. We also teach them what libraries can do to support the country and the government,” she said.

Senior librarian Christiane Adeline at the SNL added that through this workshop she will be able to gather more knowledge and excel at her work.

“Since last year we started following such programme in Uganda, it is a three- year programme on the aspect of management of libraries. Such workshop will enhance our knowledge about better innovative ideas in our field of work,” he said.

The delegates are from such countries as Ghana, Zambia, South Africa, Seychelles, and Uganda among others.
